Flight 93 Memorial -
Site where Flight 93, on Sept 11, 2001, was downed with 45 passangers on board.
Flight 93 Memorial Chapel -
Chapel honoring the passengers & crew of Flight 93. It was the first
memorial to flight 93 & was completely reconstructed in ten days.
Bedford - Originally called Raystown,
Bedford was settled about 1751. Gen Washington stayed here during
Whiskey Rebellion. Quaint Town where you can shop & explore history.
Fort Bedford Museum - Old Fort
Bedford was a British Stockade built in 1758 as part of the French
and Indian War campaign against the French at Fort Duquesne.

National Museum of American Coverlet - Museum devoted
exclusive to coverlets, only museum of it's kind in America. Coverlets date
before American quilts. Man made them for their ladies.
Bedford County Covered Bridges -
14 Covered bridges set in picturesque settings. Bridges have withstood weather
for over 100 years.
Covered Bridges in Somerset County-
There are 10 covered bridges, each with their own unique history, located in Somerset County.
Bedford Springs Resort - Hotel was bulit 1806
to house guests that frequant the area for the curative properties of the springs.
It was renovated as close to possible to it's original splendor in 2004
& reopened its doors in 2007.
North:
Fort Ligonier -
A restored British fort built in 1758, which was important in
the French & Indian war
Ligonier - Beautiful town started in 1817
when the Phildelphia - Pittsburgh Turnpike was established. The "Diamond was a
focal point & still exists. It now has a gazebo in the center. Great place to shop
in their over 70 specialty shoppes.
Compass Inn Museum - Authentically
restored 1799 stagecoach stop. Costumed guides will tell you the story
of everyday life, along with transportation in the early 1800's.
They will guide you through the Inn & 4 reconstucted buildings.
Pie Shoppe of Ligonier -
This shop is diagonally across from Compass Inn
& 5 minutes from Ligonier. This is a favorite for WPMC members when cruisin in the area.
It is a most stop. Their pastries, breads, cookies & pies are famous.
They have pizza & hoagies also. It is always crowded & if you
don't get there ealy enough all sweets for the day are gone.
Old General Store - Store is located on Rt 31
close to Donegel exit of the turnpike. Take a trip back in time and enjoy candies
& products from years gone by. Their store has the hometown feel of the
Old General Store of yesteryear. Complete with hardwood flooring and
aromas that will entice you.
Duncan House - Frank Lloyd Wright -
Wright's home was moved here about two years ago.
It is an other usonian designed home. Located also on the property are two other
usonian homes built by Frank Lloyd Wright's apprentices. Balter
house was designed by Peter Berndtson. Dream Hounse designed by apprentice
John Rattenbury. Almost a decade ago, he gained the attention of
the mainstream via his brilliant and stunning design for Life Magazine’s 1997
Dream House. This design’s flexibility and numerous options have made it a
Life Dream Home that has gained popularity and won accolades throughout the world.
Johnstown Flood National Memorial - Site
where the South fork Dam broke which caused the Great Johnstown Flood of 1889.
2209 lives were lost. You can see the remain of where it existed. Dam
was built for wealthy gentleman & their families from Pittsburgh
as a resort. The South Fork Fishing & Hunting Cluhouse & some cottage still exist in St. Michael, Pa.
Visitor Center has memoabrilia & film about the flood "Black Friday".
Johnstown Flood Museum -
Johnston Flood of 1889 was one of the greatest natural disasters in
American history. Museum contains a variety of exhibits and artifacts that tell the
story of the flood. Includes Multimedia map, photographs, artifacts
of flood, actual Oklahoma house, which was type of house built to house victims
after the flood & Charles Guggenheim's documentary on the flood.
It is a 26 minute film that won the Academy Award for Best Documentary, Short Subject
Frank & Sylvia Pasquerilla Heritage Discovery Center -
Part of the Johnstown Discovery Network, is a community center that
contains several attractions: the "America: Through Immigrant Eyes"
exhibit; the Johnstown Children's Museum; the Iron & Steel Gallery;
and two additional galleries. Admission to this museum is included
in admission for Johnstown Flood Museum
Grandview Cemetary -
Where 777 unidentified victims from the Flood of 1889 are buried in a section
called "Unknown Plot".
Johnstown Inclined Plane - World's
Steepest Vehicular Incline Plane. Built after the Johnstown flood
of 1889, the Inclined Plane's original purpose was to act as a
lifesaver in case of another flood. It is still operational. So take a ride
in your Miata on the Incline.
Flag -
On the hillside above the Inclined Plane is a magnificent 30’ x 60’
Centennial American flag. This flag is one of the largest flags in
the United States. It was sewn and assembled by the
workers at Bestform, right here in Johnstown.
Amish Country -
In Meyersdale you will find Amish communities. They moved to
Somerset County in 1767.
South:
Braddock Grave -
Where Gen Braddock's body was buried after being found while building Rt 40.
Fort Necessity National Battlefield - Where George
Washington was defeated in the Great Meadow during French & Indian War.
Mt Washington Tavern -
Tavern from a bygone
era that was built on Historic Rt 40. It is now part of Fort Necessity Park.
Addison Toll House -
One of the original Pennsylvania toll houses which was built in 1835. It is the
only toll house built with hand-cut natural stone in Pennsylvania.
Mt Davis -
The highest point in Pennsylvania...3,213 ft
Rockwood Mill & Opera House -
Century old lumber and feed mill transformed into colorful storefront
facades hosting more than 12 retail vendors and services. An array of
delectable treats including pizza, homemade baked goods & and
ice cream are available. There are artifacts from mill on display.
While restoring the mill an opera house was discovered upstairs, in the
evenings plays & musical entertainment are performed.
Nemacolin Woodlands Resort - John Hardy &
Margart Hardy Magerko,owner of 84 Lumber, have made the Resort one of North America's
premier resort destinations. There are two luxury hotels on propery, the Chateau &
Falling Rock. Nemacolin is ever changing. On the grounds there is a antique car museum,
zoo, air strip with museum of several airplanes,
& alot of sculptures of interest. Chateau holds alot of treasures displayed for
guests to view.
